Lessons on Humane Leadership

General Colin Powell in his book  MY AMERICAN JOURNEY recounted how his military career was saved by one Captain Miller when he mistakenly lost his pistol while serving in Germany. Two things struck me here, Colin told his Captain the truth immediately. According to Powell, this incident could have “ruin his career before it got started.”
The second thing is that his boss seeing his potentials and his abilities forgave his fault and got him back on his feet again.

I quote from the book. (page 44 – 45)
“Miller’s example of humane leadership that does not always go by the book was not lost on me. When they fall down, pick ’em up, dust ’em off, pat ’em on the back, and move ’em on.

Nobody ever made it to the top by never getting into trouble.”
